Pat Cooke

I became director of UCD’s MA in Cultural Policy and Arts Management in 2006, having spent the previous twenty years of my career as a manager and creative producer in Ireland’s state heritage service. From 2002-06 I was Chairman of the Irish Museums Association. With this profile, I might describe myself as a practitioner-academic. Many of my research interests in cultural policy are informed by questions formed during my earlier career. Having commissioned artists as contributors to various heritage projects, I am interested in questions of artistic agency in wider cultural contexts, and particularly in multi- and inter-discipilinary research projects concerned with questions of cultural democracy, the nature of community arts practice, heritage and cultural diversity policies.
